Vista Urology 2.022

A Renaissance in Caring

In clinical medicine, it is well known that a thorough history, consisting of active listening, is the most important step toward developing differential diagnoses. Physical exams, as we are taught in medical school, are intended to confirm or refute the impressions formulated during the patient interview. Lab tests and imaging studies are often not required.

However, despite these repeated lessons during training, healthcare beyond our classrooms has become increasingly backwards: Limited time to listen, even less time to examine and more unjustifiable and dangerous reliance on tests and procedures.

For our entire careers, we have been practicing medicine the way we were taught, which required us to work more and more independently and eventually create Vista Urology.

For many reasons we have decided to close our office and retire from the active practice of medicine. However, we want to continue to offer our experience to patients and physicians. Therefore, given the growing virtual access to care without geographic barriers, and the lessons learned during COVID, we will continue to offer advocacy and guidance through comprehensive virtual consultation, a V-Consult.

Schedule a Virtual Consultation   >>

What to expect:

  • A one-time session will be scheduled as a 60, 90 or 120 minute V-appointment.
  • Wait time from request to appointment may be 2-4 weeks.
  • Because the sessions are virtual, physical examination cannot be performed, and therefore, patients must understand that while differential diagnoses may be considered, a medical diagnosis cannot be made.
  • This form of consultation is not covered by medical insurance, and no superbills will be provided.
  • A written report with assessment and recommendations will be provided to the patient and their primary urologist or physician for follow up.

What is required:

  • Prior to their appointments, patients will provide completed homework assignments which may include a one page timeline, a voiding diary, questionnaires and specific medical records.
  • Patients will provide ONLY the specific medical records requested. These are typically ONLY objective data such as lab tests, imaging studies or pathology reports.
  • Patients will provide the name and contact information for the physician/urologist who will continue their care. Preferably, this physician would send a letter of introduction, but this is not required.
  • Sessions are $500/hour.

Patient Testimonials

  • ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

"After years of extensive research, Dr. Potts at Vista Urology is the only specialist I would highly recommend for help with pelvic pain in the Bay Area/Northern California. She is a very knowledgeable, conservative, and methodical practitioner who stays plugged in with the medical research community. She's also very accommodating and caring with her patients. I've seen something like 25-30 medical providers in 2-3 years for help with some mysterious pelvic pain, and she has remained one of the two that have provided trusted advice for years."

She is an expert on this disease and understands it deeply from a medical as well as holistic perspective. If you are suffering from this condition I would highly recommend her. She is the best doctor I have ever had, and cares about her patients a lot. Thanks again Dr. Potts!"

"I knew the moment I first talked with Dr. Payne that he was a person and doctor of integrity. The time he spent with me via phone and email prior to my first appointment was amazing and reflects who he is. After seven months of excruciating pain, he is the 20th doctor I have visited and he has finally given me a correct diagnosis. Dr. Payne and Dr. Potts are a compassionate team who walk their talk of treating patients the way they would like to be treated. It is absolutely worth traveling from Southern California to San Jose to be in their care.."
